Research Fellow, University of St. Andrews and University of Edinburgh  
 
Dr. Dobson is one of the top scholars of Scottish emigration studies - particularly as they relate to the United States.  He has published numerous books and articles relative to trans-Atlantic voyages and their passengers.  Many will be familiar with his works Directory of Scots in the Carolinas 1680-1830, Scottish Settlers in North America 1625-1825, Ships from  Scotland to America 1628-1828 and many more.  Dr. Dobson's two lectures will deal with emigrations from Argyll and Skye to the Carolinas, as well as trade and shipping links between Scotland and the Carolina from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
